Israel “Izzy” Munoz, the owner of Izzy Teak, is a natural born artist. During his formative and teen years, Izzy spent countless hours passionately developing his artistic skills. His father, Moises Munoz, would see his son practicing his art work at the kitchen table every morning and again upon his return from work in the evenings. Eventually Moises praised Israel for his passion, but cautioned him to find a profession that would actually pay the bills in adult life.
In college Israel tried several disciplines, but none satisfied his creative yearnings. Israel left school, but did not abandon his American dream to become successful at something special. He went to work for Bayliss Boat Works in Wanchese, NC in 2007. Boatyard work was rewarding and Izzy loved seeing the finished projects which had required so much skilled labor.
One day Israel saw a faux teak poster on a wall at the boat works. Israel read and re-read the poster. He felt like God was talking directly to him about a new career path. Israel was so taken with this idea of faux teak that as soon as he got home that evening, he was on the computer learning as much as he could about the process. Daily, after work, Israel spent time researching the subject and more importantly, practicing the technique on his own time and at his own expense.
Israel practiced for two years before he felt confident enough to attempt his first professional faux teak project which was on the transom of the sport fish, Summer Girl. Israel applied the process three times before he was satisfied. The owner of the boat had been happy with the first iteration.
Izzy and his wife, Jessica, formed Izzy Teak in 2017 and have been moving forward ever since. Israel’s artistic work has carried him to Charleston, SC, High Point and Morehead City, NC, Ocean City, MD, and Florida, all to make beautiful boats even more beautiful.
Izzy is proud to present a gallery of completed Izzy Teak projects.
Each was painstakingly handcrafted by Izzy himself.
